In today’s day and age where eating nutrient poor animal products and refined foods has become the maintstay of our diet, I’ve noticed that one of the hardest ideas for people to understand about eating "healthy" or better said, "Nutrient Rich"; is that what used to be the side dish is now the main dish.
What used to be something you ate as a dessert, or to get your "vitamins", or when you were sick to get well, is now what you eat 90% of the time or more. Doesn’t that just make pure, common sense?
Here at Nutrient Rich, we were the first to promote the 90% goal as the sweet spot for successful eating(tm). Not because we are promoting nutrient poor foods, or compromising our ideals, it’s just that we ‘re not idealists. We’re into eating ideally for health, performance and success and most of all happiness and quality of life in a disease-free body.
In today’s day and age, where at times you have to be flexible, the sweet spot for successful eating is a central concept to keep in mind. Especially as a primary objective as your life.
As someone who is very experienced in practically all forms of eating, understanding how to transition from nutrient poor to Nutrient Rich and getting into "the sweet spot" will go a long way, for your health, your well-being and the planet!
But we don’t ascribe to the all or nothing plan. Making a 100% commitment to making your diet Nutrient Rich, makes sense, but we know that it doesn’t happen like that most of the time. You can make that committment and work your way as far as you want to go towards that 100% with intention, but nevertheless, you’re going to have times when things just don’t work out as planned.
Here at Nutrient Rich, the worlds first Dietary Transition System, we have learned that changing your diet is about more than merely making the decision to eat better, there are other variables. So even with the best of intentions and passion for eating Nutrient Rich, you want to make sure you can be and feel successful in every situation, even when you’re not eating totally Nutrient Rich.
The food "experts" whose whole lifestyle are oriented around food, in most cases, didn’t get there overnight, but their telling you to. That doesn’t make sense. That’s called selling the diet mentality and it takes all the personal choice and fun out it.
When you eat the Nutrient Rich way, you learn the concepts and set a goal and get there at your own pace. That may be fast or slower, it depends if you "get it" and are driven or if you have a medical nutrition problem (this is when you want to be idealistic) because you have to do what you have to do. You may just make a goal of getting to 60%, 70%, 80% and so on…
Momentum builds and success breeds success!
When it’s your choice and you’re not "sticking to a program", you’ll find all the resistance disappears and you’ll find yourself closer to the sweet spot faster than you think. Its because you’re doing things for the right reasons driven by desire. I’ve seen this happen over and over in my experience and those who are driven by desire, are the most successful! And happy!
